MWL Member Erin Bryan has recently started a new position at Dorsey & Whitney LLP. Erin's practice consists of commercial bankruptcy, restructuring, and insolvency, as well consumer regulatory and compliance matters. Previously Erin’s consumer regulatory and default experience includes serving as in-house counsel at U.S. Bancorp, where she advised the Bank’s residential mortgage, auto loan & lease, student loan, personal loan, deposit account, branch banking, and credit card businesses regarding bankruptcy law.

Moss & Barnett, A Professional Association, is pleased to announce the expansion of the firm's Multifamily and Commercial Real Estate Finance team with the arrival of lawyer Lindsay L. Case. The firm now has 18 lawyers serving real estate finance clients nationwide. Case focuses her practice on closing and delivering loans secured by multifamily projects to secondary market investors such as Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Prior to joining Moss & Barnett, Case practiced in the area of public finance, providing counsel on municipal bond and tax increment financing transactions. Prior to that, Case was with the Southwest Minnesota Housing Partnership, a developer of low income single-family and multifamily housing in rural Minnesota. She started her career as a law clerk for District Court Judge Gordon Moore in Nobles County, Minnesota. Case received her J.D. from the University of St. Thomas School of Law and her B.S., cum laude, from Minnesota State University, Mankato.

hover textBrigadier General Johanna Clyborne was appointed by Governor Dayton to serve as Commissioner and Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the State of Minnesota. She leads MNIT in its critical mission to deliver high-quality customer service, keep Minnesotans safe and secure online, and effectively manage the technology services of state government. Commissioner Clyborne is a traditional Guardsmen holding the rank of Brigadier General in the Minnesota National Guard where she serves as the Director of the Joint Staff providing guidance, leadership, and oversight to the Joint Staff. In addition to her military service, Commissioner Clyborne is a founding partner of the Shakopee-based law firm Brekke, Clyborne, and Ribich, L.L.C., where she focuses on family law, military pension and federal benefits, and legal issues particular to the United States Armed Forces. As an attorney, Commissioner Clyborne chairs the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Veterans and Military Affairs Council, sits on board of directors for the Minnesota Chapter of the American Red Cross, and participates in the Legal Assistance to Military Personnel through the Minnesota State Bar and Volunteer Lawyers Network.

Hanft Fride is proud to welcome Leah Fisher as the firm's newest shareholder, effective January 1, 2018. Fisher's promotion strengthens Hanft Fride's family law offering, as Fisher has focused her practice on family law since joining the firm in 2015. Leah Fisher obtained her Juris Doctor degree cum laude from the Seattle University School of Law and is admitted to practice in the State of Minnesota. She concentrates her practice in the area of family law. She represents individuals in a broad range of matters including divorce, custody, parenting time, child support, adoption, and other general family matters. She has also served as a third-party evaluator for custody and parenting time disputes.

hover textFormer MWL President Luz Maria Frias has been awarded the 2018 MLK Commitment to Service Award by the Office of Governor Mark Dayton & Lt. Governor Tina Smith.The award honors public servants who are making a difference in Minnesota. Luz Frias was among 14 award recipients honored at this year's annual Governor's Council on MLK Day celebration. Other honorees include Bill Blackwell of Bemidji State University; Ibrahim Hirsi, staff writer for MinnPost; and Rep. Ilhan Omar.

hover textThe Minnesota State Bar Association announces the certification of Marla Halvorson, St. Luke’s Hospital as a MSBA Board Certified Labor and Employment Law Specialist. The certified specialist designation is earned by leading attorneys who have completed a rigorous approval process, including an examination in the specialty area, peer review, and documented experience. Certified attorneys have demonstrated superior knowledge, skill and integrity in their specific field and can use the designation of specialist to advertise their credentials. This achievement has been earned by fewer than 3% of all licensed Minnesota attorneys.

Attorney and MWL Member Kristine Kubes (center) was sworn in to practice before the United States Supreme Court on March 21, 2018, with colleagues from the ACEC Legal Counsel Forum. Kubes was the only Minnesota attorney admitted, and may now represent MN parties or assist MN counsel in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. She is the founding member of Kubes Law Office, serving design and construction professionals.
