100% Club Spotlight: Jackson Lewis P.C.

    By: Gina K. Janeiro

Gina K. Janeiro is Office Managing Shareholder of the Minneapolis, Minnesota, office of Jackson Lewis P.C. She is certified as a Labor and Employment Law Specialist through the Minnesota State Bar Association.

Founded in 1958, Jackson Lewis is dedicated to representing management exclusively in workplace law. While the firm’s marketing tag line is, “All We Do is Work,” Jackson Lewis is dedicated to providing a challenging, yet supportive, environment for all of its attorneys, including its female attorneys. Jackson Lewis understands the importance of having a workforce that reflects the various communities in which it works, and upon which it can rely to creatively develop preventive strategies and positive solutions for its clients. For this reason, Jackson Lewis seeks to recruit, hire, retain, develop, and advance a diverse team of employees who share its passion for representing management in all aspects of workplace law.

With eight hundred attorneys practicing in five time zones from coast to coast, Jackson Lewis has set the national standard in employment and labor defense, counseling employers in every aspect of employment and labor law and related litigation. In so doing, Jackson Lewis has achieved the highest distinctions for both its legal work and its efforts to advance women and other minorities. For example, for the third consecutive year, BTI Litigation Outlook has identified Jackson Lewis as one of the top three “go-to” firms for both routine and complex employment litigation. However, the acknowledgement of Jackson Lewis’ advancement and support of its female attorneys makes the firm, and the Minneapolis office, equally proud.

In 2015, Employment Law 360 designated Jackson Lewis a "Ceiling Smasher" and subsequently one of the twenty-five Best Law Firms for Female Partners based on its high percentage of female shareholders. In addition, the Women in Law Empowerment Forum certified Jackson Lewis for the fourth year in a row as a “Gold Standard Firm,” a designation reserved for large firms that have successfully integrated female attorneys. Moreover, in 2015, Jackson Lewis was ranked number forty-eight in Employment Law 360’s “The 100 Best Law Firms for Minority Attorneys.” The firm created the Women’s Interest Network (WIN) to support and encourage the success of women by, among other things, providing tools to acquire new business, mentoring relationships and leadership opportunities.

The firm’s commitment to the advancement of women is reflected in the fact that: thirty-four percent of our Office Managing Shareholders are women and thirty percent of the Office Litigation Managers are women – the top two levels of leadership in each office. In addition, fifteen percent of the firm's Practice Group Leaders are women and ten percent of the Board of Directors, the firm's governing body, are women.

You need to go no further than the Minneapolis office to see how Jackson Lewis supports the advancement of women and the success such support and trust can produce. The Minneapolis office of Jackson Lewis opened in 1997. Since 2008, Gina K. Janeiro has held a leadership role in the office – first as Litigation Manager and then, in July 2013, as the Managing Shareholder. During the past two years, the Minneapolis office has grown from seven attorneys to thirteen attorneys, adding three new shareholders and five new associates. The six female attorneys in the Minneapolis office are distinguished members of the legal community, repeatedly selected to the Minnesota Super Lawyers and Rising Stars lists by Minnesota Law & Politics, and hold numerous board and volunteer positions in local non-profit organizations and professional groups, including Minnesota Women Lawyers. These female attorneys are proud of their commitment to diversity and inclusion in the legal field and to the advancement and encouragement of women in leadership. Jackson Lewis’ Minneapolis office is honored to be members of the 100% Club.
