MWL Strategic Goals and Strategies for FY 2018 - 2020


A.   EQUITY. Elevate the status and position of women attorneys.


1. Advance MWL's mission by: 

   a. Capitalizing on MWL’s unique position as a diverse thought leader to increase equity and effect positive change     in the profession;

   b. Leveraging the work of the MWL Equity Committee; and

   c. Deepening MWL’s partnerships, communications, and relationships with affinity bar associations and others in       the community.

2. Foster and cultivate a professional community that supports and celebrates women attorneys.

B.  DIVERSITY. Commit to diversity and inclusion in all facets of MWL.


1. Create a culture that ensures all potential and current members feel welcome.

2. Grow MWL’s membership and leadership to better reflect the diversity of attorneys in Minnesota.

3. Develop, implement, and regularly evaluate specific, tangible goals and action steps that further diversity and inclusion.

4. Collaborate as an ally with affinity bar associations and other organizations that are committed to diversity and inclusion.

C. SOCIETY. Facilitate the engagement of members in striving for a just society.


Provide meaningful opportunities for and encourage MWL members to engage with the broader community in the following areas:
Access to justice,
Gender pay equity,
Stopping gender-based violence, and
Girl empowerment. 

D. FOCUS. Maximize MWL’s mission impact by focusing our resources.


1. Set a deliberate and purposeful goal with specific deliverables to guide MWL's activities and resources.

2. Implement the “Master Calendar” process, including active review of action plans, to align, streamline, and focus MWL’s activities and resources, and to progress the identified goal.

3. Develop a cohesive, recognizable and strategic brand that effectively communicates MWL’s mission and values.

4. Evaluate and implement opportunities to leverage technology and social media.

E. FUNDING. Secure MWL's short and long-term financial stability.


1. Implement an annual development plan that identifies potential revenue opportunities, focusing particularly on membership, partnership, sponsorship and other opportunities for revenue generation.

2. Explore and leverage opportunities and resources through the MWL Foundation, and collaborate and coordinate efforts with MWL and key partners as appropriate.
