MWL Foundation: Law Student Scholarship Details

The Minnesota Women Lawyers Foundation is pleased to announce its MWL Foundation Law Student Scholarship. This scholarship is made possible through the generous donations of MWL members, supporters and friends.


The goal of the MWL Foundation Law Student Scholarship is to provide aid to students attending a Minnesota law school who demonstrate an interest in furthering the mission of Minnesota Women Lawyers, “to advance the success of women lawyers and strive for a just society."


Applications for the 2019 MWL Foundation Law Student Scholarship are now being accepted.


NOTE: All law students are welcome to apply for both the MWL Foundation Law Student Scholarship and the MWL Foundation Leslie Altman Memorial Scholarship.  The submission deadline for both scholarships is September 16, 2019.



The MWL Foundation Law Student Scholarship: 2019 Application


The following criteria will be considered for the 2019 Minnesota Women Lawyers Foundation Law Student Scholarship:

• Students must be currently attending a Minnesota law school and in good academic standing;
• Students must demonstrate a commitment to the advancement of women in the legal profession and/or women’s issues;
• Preference given to students who exhibit support and motivation for the mission of MWL through participation with MWL or other groups with a similar mission.

One (1) scholarship will be awarded, in the amount of $2,500. The recipient of the Scholarship is required to use the award for educational purposes.

Law Student Application Process:

To apply for this Scholarship, please submit:


1) A completed scholarship application;

2) A current resume;

3) An essay question response (no longer than two pages in length);

4) A brief statement of financial need (no longer than 2 paragraphs);

5) A letter of recommendation.


Essay Question:

How can an organization like Minnesota Women Lawyers remain relevant to members and potential members given the changing legal and social landscape?


Notes on Eligibility:

-Full and part-time students are eligible.

-Previous scholarship recipients remain eligible. However, preference is given to new recipients.


Applications will be accepted via hand-delivery to the MWL office, via email or via U.S. Mail by Monday, September 16th, 2019 by 4:30 p.m.

The MWL Foundation Law Student Scholarship  will be presented at the 2019 MWL Rosalie Wahl Leadership Lecture on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019 (details are forthcoming).
