MWL Judicial Resources

Minnesota Women Lawyers (MWL) provides resources and support to MWL members who are considering seeking appointment to the judiciary. The Committee also assists in preparing MWL members for the judicial appointment process.

Assistance Provided by Minnesota Women Lawyers

(1) Offering "You Can Be A Judge” seminars where newly appointed judges, members of the Commission on Judicial Selection, and staff from the Governor's Office discuss the judicial appointment process and give tips and suggestions to interested candidates.

(2) Offering document reviews for applicants who want constructive feedback and review of their application, cover letter, resume, and other written submissions to the Commission before such documents are submitted;

(3) Offering mock interview sessions for applicants who want interview practice in anticipation for interviews with the Commission or the Governor;

(4) Collecting information from candidates and judicial appointees about the application and interview process in an effort to better prepare our members for the same.

(5) Providing MWL members with information about upcoming judicial vacancies; and

(6) Recruiting well qualified MWL members for positions on the bench with a view toward increasing the overall diversity of the MN bench and the quality of the applicant pool.

Please note that the mock interview and document review services are limited to MWL members only.

For more information about these efforts, or to get involved in supporting these activities, please contact MWL Executive Director Debra Pexa (dpexa@mwlawyers.org or 612/338-3205)..
