Minnesota Women Lawyers is saddened to learn of the passing of Judge Diana Murphy.  MWL cannot overstate the tremendous impact Judge Murphy had in advancing the success of women lawyers throughout her esteemed legal career.

As a recipient of MWL’s Myra Bradwell Award in 1996, Judge Murphy embodied the highest ideals of the legal profession, including courage, perseverance and leadership on issues of concern to women and the profession itself.  Always blazing a trail for others to follow, Judge Murphy was the first woman to serve as Judge, and later Chief Judge on the United States District Court - District of Minnesota bench, as well as the first woman to serve on the United States Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Dating back to the 1970’s and throughout her career, Minnesota Women Lawyers was fortunate and honored to have Judge Murphy’s staunch support, mentorship and leadership. Her tireless dedication to justice, equality and diversity has, and will continue to serve, as inspiration to all of us across the legal profession and greater community.

Minnesota Women Lawyers extends its deepest sympathies to her family, friends and colleagues.
