The state of our technological world is changing at an alarming rate.  How are today’s lawyers able to keep abreast of these changes and what do these changes mean to the practice of law?  From understanding where evidence and data may exist, to knowing how to help your client adhere to the complexities of privacy law and data security, lawyers need to embrace technology to meet the demands.

The Federal Rules of Civil Procedure now require that lawyers have the technological competence to practice law, and a number of states require continuing legal education in technology to maintain your license.   California just passed a privacy law that will affect all of your clients that do business there, prompting discussions of a federal privacy law. This seasoned panel of lawyers from industry, corporate and law firm practice will provide perspectives on the newest technologies and artificial intelligence and how to leverage them in your personal lives, your business and your practice. These experts will help you identify issues that may put your clients in the cross-hairs of new privacy and data security laws.

Topics will include:

·What does it mean to be “Tech-Savvy” – a discussion of the generational realities and limitations.  Panelists will share with the audience their favorite Tip or Best Practice;

·Technology – “Complex made Clear” – The need to view technology and the electronic world in a new way to assist our clients and increase our own productivity;

·Emerging Trends and Sexy Thoughts – Block Chain, artificial intelligence, autonomous driving vehicles, biometrics and facial recognition, and other hot trends will be discussed;

·Issue Spotting 101 - social media, BOTs, IOT (Internet of Things) and Big Brother.

Speakers:

·Heidi Fessler,  Principal, Innova Law Group – Panel Moderator

·Barbara Klas, Consultant & Director, Casepoint, LLC

·Jenna Perrin, Assistant Vice President and Data Privacy Specialist, TCF Bank

·Jackie Haydock, Attorney - U.S. Health & Life Sciences, Microsoft Corporation
