The MWL CLE Committee is Pleased to Present:
Diversity & the Predicament of Good Intentions: Lessons from an Anthropologist

*The frigid temps won’t keep us away! Looking forward to you joining us Thursday 1/31 to create some hot ideas to warm our cores about anthropology + diversity + law.

We think we understand diversity and know how to engage with it. But if we don't take the time to think about diversity in complex ways, we risk unintentionally trafficking in the exact patterns we seek to avoid. Using an anthropological lens, we'll discuss legal initiatives and case studies to find ways to overcome the predicament of good intentions.

This interactive CLE will ask questions such as: What is diversity? What counts as diversity? Join us as we hear from our esteemed speakers, engage in small group exercises and individual thought exercises.

Event Schedule:
3:30-5:00 P.M.   Program
5:00-6:00 P.M.   Networking Reception

MWL is pleased to welcome the following speakers:

Constanza Ocampo-Raeder
is an assistant professor in anthropology at Carleton College. She received her MA and PhD from Stanford University and her BA from Grinnell College.  Constanza’s research and teaching focus on uncovering the multiple ways by which nature is understood and interreacted with by people around the world. Most of her work takes place in areas of high conservation priority and looks at how culture and behavior influence those practices.

Amy Gernon received her JD from the University of Michigan Law School and her BA from Grinnell College. She has practiced law for over 15 years, including working for seven years as a federal law clerk in the District of Minnesota. Amy currently practices with the Sapientia Law Group in Minneapolis.
